San Antonio Area Day Dove Lease

I have 2 dove leases just south of San Antonio in Somerset. First field is an excellent flyway located in the Somerset city limits. We get huge flocks of birds flying over coming in to town to roost great shots. Second field is an old sand quarry about 10 miles south. Property has a 10acre lake lots of mature oak trees and lots of dove weed/ wild sunflower. This property holds a ton of birds all day going from the food to the lake to drink and stopping in to pick gravel. We limit the amount of hunters to 10 per field so as not to overcrowd and make it a pleasurable hunt for everyone. Feel free to give me a call email or text for more info.

Paloma Pachanga takes over as top dove spot in Texas

By Ralph Winingham, For the Express-News

Until a wingshooter has actually witnessed hundreds of thousands of migratory birds in the air at one time, the annual dove blitz in the skies near Hondo may seem just a little unbelievable.
Brent Conger, managing partner of Paloma Pachanga Ranch, plans to make believers out of thousands of hunters when dove season opens this fall.
“There are birds here numbering in the millions,” Conger said. “Last year we had about 600 hunters out on opening day and everyone got their limit. That’s 9,000 birds in one afternoon.”
Conger also noted the white-winged dove population flocking to his fields each day was barely scratched by hunting pressure.
Conger, who has been one of the largest dove outfitters based at Hondo for the past seven years, will be doubling his operation this year by taking over his neighbor’s fields.
He will be assuming control of the Nooner Ranch sunflower fields, pavilion and lodge that was the dove day-lease juggernaut created by Sammy Nooner, known as the “Duke of Doves,” back in the early 1990s.
“What Sammy said to me was that I will now have the best dove hunting spot in the country — that is kind of overwhelming,” said Conger, 37, a San Antonio native. “I grew up hunting with my dad, and I can’t think of anything more enjoyable than watching a father and his three sons come out here to spend some quality time together dove hunting in the best place in the country.”

FL Dove Lease Memberships 2017-2018 Palm City

Working on memberships for our Dove Lease for the 2017-2018 season, it looks like we might have a few spots open for new members this year.

Palm City Wingshooters is a good bunch of family folks who share a passion for wing shooting. The lease is 80 acres with the FPL power lines running down the center. We have 3 fields with a 4th being added now, these fields have been planted and maintained for 25 or so years, the shooting is really, really good. See pictures below.

Cost of a full membership is $1000 for the season, the Dove season in Florida is long, last years dates listed below:

•Phase 1: September 24, 2016 - October 24, 2016.
•Phase 2: November 12, 2016 - December 5, 2016.
•Phase 3: December 12, 2016 - January 15, 2017.

We hold birds the entire season, lots or resident birds (including a few white wing Dove) and we get a good push of migratory birds towards the end of the 2nd phase. We shoot most weekends staggering morning and afternoon shoots and hold special shoots on Thanksgiving morning and Christmas Eve morning.

I will update this thread as to how many memberships we will offer, only planning on 25 members in total. Membership allows one guest per shoot and full access to the property year round. We have a shooting range also and some of the members work bird dogs in the fields.

If interested please email me direct to slyshon@maverickboatgroup.com.

Kentucky farmers can earn extra cash by enrolling in Fish and Wildlife Cooperative Dove Field Program

Kentucky farmers can earn some much-needed extra cash by enrolling in the Cooperative Dove Field Program. Enrollment is underway and continues through March 1.

The Cooperative Dove Field Program pays landowners to lease fields on their property for public dove hunting.

“Landowners may earn up to $10,000 in the Cooperative Dove Field Program,” said Wes Little, migratory bird biologist for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. “They earn $300 per acre planted.”

Little said the department has accepted fields ranging from six to 40 acres with additional lease payments offered for buffers around planted fields. “Fields generally run from 20 to 30 acres in size,” he explained. “But, we encourage anyone interested to apply.”

Farmers may plant sunflowers, millet or another acceptable crop for a public dove field by working with a Kentucky Fish and Wildlife private lands biologist and following some simple guidelines.

Payment amounts depend on the number of acres enrolled, crop type and fulfillment of the plot management agreement with Kentucky Fish and Wildlife.

The department is especially interested in reaching agreements with property owners who have acreage in underserved areas with significant numbers of dove hunters. In the west, this includes Caldwell, Calloway, Christian, Daviess, Fulton, Grayson, Hardin, Hart, Hickman, LaRue, Logan, Lyon, Simpson, Todd and Trigg counties. In southcentral Kentucky, this includes Boyle, Cumberland, Laurel, Lincoln, Pulaski and Wayne counties.

To get the process started, landowners must contact their Kentucky Fish and Wildlife private lands biologist or Natural Resources Conservation Service liaison. For a listing of biologists, visit the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife homepage at www.fw.ky.gov and search under the keywords, “private lands biologist.”

Property owners may also call the department at 1-800-858-1549 for more information.
